As the cloud becomes vital for any company, Cloud architects are expected to be one of the future’s most wanted IT professionals. Cloud architects help businesses migrate their data to the cloud in the most cost-effective and stress-free way; while maintaining their cloud infrastructure.  

Roles and responsibilities of cloud architects

Cloud architecture is the arrangement and alignment of components and subcomponents for cloud computing. Usually, cloud architecture consists of all cloud computing components and includes front-end platform, network, server, data storage, etc.  

Cloud architects are highly skilled IT professionals whose expertise allows them to navigate complex cloud environments. They are responsible for developing and managing the cloud computing architecture. Cloud Architects design and supervise the execution of plans that describe how to implement technical requirements into architecture to achieve expected results. They often work in close collaboration with DevOps and software engineers. 

Cloud architect areas of expertise 

The list of requirements for Cloud Architects might include specific technologies. Some roles are even tailored specifically for TOP-3 leading cloud providers – AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud – and their tech stack. Other roles might target specific areas, for instance, blockchain. 

Cloud architects should have extensive tech knowledge, including but not limited to application architecture, cybersecurity expertise, automation, ITSM/ITOM, etc. Additionally, these professionals should be excellent communicators – because they often negotiate third-party contracts with vendors and are responsible for team interaction.  

What cloud architects do and why they are vital for most companies 

Cloud architects’ responsibilities vary depending on industry specifics, business scale, goals, and special requirements. Usually, their scope of work includes assessing existing infrastructure, elaborating a plan for further steps, scaling the infrastructure, hiring a cloud team, choosing vendors, running a negotiation process, adopting cloud best practices, managing budget, optimizing costs, assessing risks, and implementing security programs.  

Cloud architects, as a part of a company’s team, must have a deep understanding of business specifics. Allowing them to elaborate a specialized solution that addresses primary business needs.
