Seven Office 365 recovery options

 In Business

Backups and recovery options are equally important when it comes to your critical business data safe. Recovery options are available across physical, virtual, cloud, SaaS, and other workloads. In this article, we will describe seven Office 365 recovery options.

1. Restore options.

The key component of any efficient recovery is the ability to restore data back to its original location. For instance, OneDrive provides an opportunity to restore an entire user’s OneDrive alongside individual files and folders back to its source. In SharePoint, all online sites, files, documents, and libraries can be restored back on-premises or to Share Point Online. An MS Teams application stores data in different locations, but if you use special software, like Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Teams, you can automatically restore data back to its original sources, so you don’t need to think about where it should be allocated.

2. Restoring with attributes

Certain applications retain their attributes during the restoring process. If you are using OneDrive, you can restore with extended attributes and custom access controls. Teams allow restoring a team with its membership and settings. Files in OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams are saved with multiple copies in versioning to make sure that you can access the version you need.

3. Save options.

Having to save options is extremely convenient. Luckily there are quite a few to choose from. Individual items can be saved locally such as Exchange items as a . MSG, as well as OneDrive for business files or folders. You can also save SharePoint objects as files. Microsoft Teams allows saving files and posts. MSG format too. OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Teams all provide an option of saving multiple files, objects, or folders as a ZIP archive for easy sharing.

4. Export options

There are several export options available to make your life easier when it comes to reporting or data analysis. In Exchange Online, you can export folders, items, or mailboxes as a . PST file. Microsoft Teams gives an option to find a message by the author or a certain keyword. You can export posts as an HTML, or export selected posts within a specified time.

5. Send options

Sending a mistakenly deleted file is possible via generating an email directly from the UI with the file added as an attachment. This can be done to send an email with an Exchange item, SharePoint objects or Teams files.

6. Service provider options

Restored options can be leveraged not only by admins but by service providers as well. For instance, Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 can be offered as a Backup as a Service (BaaS). Restore capabilities in this case include Exchange items, OneDrive files or folders, SharePoint objects, and Teams items.

7. Self-service options

Self-service is critically important for companies to be able to scale their environments. There will be a self-service restore option introduced in Version 6 of Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 that is due to release in the first quarter of 2022. A self-service portal will provide admins an option to delegate restores of emails, files, and more to their end-users.

Hopefully, this blog will help you to navigate through the recovery options available to meet any request of your business.
